Waffle, We're not in Africa anymore!
Furlough time in the US of A. You people here drive on the wrong side of the street! (Look out for that Car, Waffle!) You have yummy food every day! (Look out for those Carbs, Val!) You all speed around in vehicles and don't stop to visit your neighbors! (Whoooosh!) And the phones and internet work almost all of the time! ( :) ) It's so cold! (Brrrrrr!) My Berkenstocks are chilly!
We both have lots of adjustments to make during our US furlough, both physically and psychologically. It's wonderful to be here, yet heart-breaking to leave our team, friends and animals behind in Uganda, with a looming famine, some community instability, and the expected Africa losses due to sickness and disease. Our baby duiker and nursing reedbuck are at risk. Our chickens and dogs can easily get exposed to sicknesses. Will they be there when we get back?
We also miss being with the CLIDE members! We love you guys! Although CLIDE does great with thier community ministries, some of our newly developing activities have to be on hold: The 10,000 liter Aquaponics tank sits empty awaiting the flow of water and a big school of squiggliy tilapia! Metal framework from various construction projects sit idley by, awaiting the master-welder's arrival back. Traditional healers await the next research program, to get their herbal medicines into commercial production. The pastors training curriculum and the recording of Chronological stories for the Discipleship MP3's await technical assistance from the Lomilos. Soon, we pray that all of these activities will be fully grounded and integrated into the CLIDE action plan, but for now, we still need to get back soon and empower them to move forward.
We love being here in the US with everybody, but miss Africa while we are here.
We love being in Africa serving God, but miss everyone in the US when we are there!
