Pre-School Kids are now ready for First Grade!

Our 4 small pre-schools have now been going for 2 years, and the children are ready to graduate to First Grade. We would like to find sponsors for them. We have 14 who are already signed up for school and would like to add another 10 if we can find sponsors.

Karamojong Kids Need Help to Go to School!

Years of tribal warfare, combined with drought and famine have left Karamoja ravaged.  Many men have been killed in the fighting, leaving widows and orphans impoverished, struggling to provide food, shelter and other necessities for themselves. HIV/AIDS has also taken quite a few parents, leaving children on their own or with elderly grandparents. Desparate kids flee to the capital city, Kampala, to try to survive by begging on the streets. Poverty prevents these needy children and orphans from getting an education and traps them in hopelessness. We want to help these kids to have a future and to be the generatoin that breaks out of poverty and lifts their communities to the next level of development.

We have 2 education programs with CLIDE, the Timothy and the Non-Timothy. CLIDE runs the Timothy Project Sponsorships with NW Hills Church in Corvallis. We help CLIDE with the Non-Timothy Scholarships through this website.

The Scholarship Programme

The Scholarships (Non-Timothy Project) that we offer supports students who are excelling academicallly and spiritually. It is a supplementary program of CLIDE Consultancy, in coordination with Christian Adventure Ministry (Waffle and Dr. Val). Through your donations, we provide scholarships for needy, bright children. This scholarship covers school fees and school uniform. We also provide some holiday scholastic coaching and work-study for those that have additional financial needs. This work study helps them to develop life skills (leadership training, tree planting, fencing, welding, cement mixing, etc.) and is a good time for mentoring and developing character in these kids. It also helps them to see that they have a responsibility to work, and will not just be getting handouts everytime they have a need.

Students qualify for these scholarships in 4 ways:

• By having exemplary performance in school (upper 10% of their class)
• Having significant need (orphans, children of disabled people or those with chronic diseases)
• Having a strong desire for spiritual growth, and
• Getting a recommendation from either the school, a commnity leader or the church.

Students must maintain academic excellence, moral behavior, spiritual growth, and communication with CLIDE. If the students fail in these areas they are given warnings. After 3 warnings, they are suspended from the program until improvement is seen.

We currently have 62 students in the Non-Timothy Scholarship program, with 32 on the waiting list. Many have just completed their High School education and are ready to begin Community College. The costs of college is 3-5 times the amount for High School. We therefore ask sponsors to increase their giving during the college period. We are also seeking extra sponsors who can contribute towards those students that have a partial college sponsor. This year, we really need more sponsors, if possible.

Timothy Child Sponsorship Program

Timothy Education Project is the other CLIDE ministry for child sponsorship for needy children. Many of our students were once street children begging on the streets in Kampala, but have now progressed up to college level. Other sponsored children are pastors kids, children from needy familes and a few from CLIDE members. To hear some of their stories, see these videos:  Lowii John Bosco - Click HERE.   

By helping these children, we give them an alternative future, boosting them out of the dispair of poverty and away from the lures of tribal warfare. We also have times of spiritual direction with them, mentoring the older c hildren and bringing them all together for an annual spiritual retreat.

We currently pay fees for about 90 Timothy children, but only half of these are actually sponsored.

Several of these young men now are running their own businesses, thanks to supporters who helped them with their education in Trade Schools! Carpenters, Mechanics, Electricians, etc. Others have graduated and are now accountants, agriculture workers, veterinary technicians and teachers. Thanks for allowing God to work through  all of you who have helped to give them a Hope and a Future!
